Shag Valley Farms is a family farm in Western Colorado where we believe good food begins with knowing where it comes from.

Our farm is our home, our workplace, and a place where our family has learned the value of growing, raising, preparing, and sharing real food.

We believe there is something special about knowing your farmer, understanding how your food is raised, and learning the traditional skills that have nourished families for generations.

Life on the Farm

Farm life is busy, sometimes messy, and always changing. Our days are filled with animals, gardens, eggs, milk, food preparation, preserving, and getting ready for the next season.

For our family, farming isn’t about creating a perfect lifestyle. It’s about learning to work with the land, making good food a priority, and passing those skills on to the next generation.

Our Journey to Traditional Foods

Our journey toward traditional foods began with our own family.

Over the years, we became increasingly interested in nutrient-dense foods, traditional food preparation, and the connection between what we eat and how we feel.

That journey led us to traditional practices such as making meat stock, fermenting vegetables, preparing cultured dairy, sourdough, properly prepared grains, and using healthy traditional fats.

What began in our own kitchen eventually grew into a desire to help other families learn these skills.

Shag Valley Farms and Nourishing Modern Families grew together.

The farm gives us a place to practice what we teach—and to teach from real experience.

Through classes, farm experiences, and our farm products, we help families learn practical ways to bring more traditional foods and food skills into their own homes.

Our goal is simple: to help families reconnect with real food, the land, and the traditions that nourish us.
